Our troupe performed on the Valley of the Kings stage. We found the carpeting on it to be wrinkled/lumpy, kinda 'unsafe' although that's a stronger word than I really mean. The stage itself was SUPER low (was it even 12 inches?) although with that ceiling being rather low, it was probably necessary. The lighting for that stage was dim and kind depressing. Also a nicer backdrop might help the mood (yeah, I am being picky) I felt sorry for some of the vendors on that level due to the overall VERY dim lighting. Down on that level could use some AIR.
Also, as performers, we never saw or heard of anyone to order videos from. Perhaps better promotion of this would help with video sales.

We got quite a workout throughout the day going UP and down all those staircases! Could the escalators be turned on next time?

While the Luxor stage was FAR better lit and had a higher ceiling clearance ---- MANY of us from row 8 and further back lost site of Sherri and her trio when they did floor work. Could next year's stage in that area possibly be higher?
Maybe a food vendor next time as the choices for meals are FAR AWAY!!!

Overall, the staff was very friendly - our stage manager and announcer were both great!
We enjoyed being on the boat and being in Long Beach - great location. We'd love to return to this venue again.
( I did 'feel' for our friends who had to pay $18 to get in. )

  • I agree with you...although I had fun...I was expecting more...there was supposed to be food...with vegetarian options...what happened to that??? And I thought there would be more vendors.....this was my first time attending this event and I will be back next year. I danced on the upstairs stage at 6:15pm...Nice crowd. Thanks for the support..
  • I really loved this new venue! It gave the event so much more character. Being so close to the ocean was an added treat. Barring all the road closures, which we all have to expect living in SoCal, I thought it was really easy to get to and find. I realize there were many issues, but as anyone who has ever put something of this caliber together will tell you, the first year is always the test. I found that the staff was really helpful, that is always appreciated. The food vendor on the top floor, while great to have there, should have had some vegetarian options besides a salad. I am not a bunny and appreciate good, healthy choices. I solved this by just going onto the ship and finding the cafe, no big deal, and it gave me a chance to explore the beautiful lobby!
I was helping Ms Geisha Moth all day saturday and sunday and it was hot down there on saturday, but on sunday the air conditioning was working WONDERFULLY, it felt very comfortable. The stage down there was more intimate I felt, but it still could use some more artistic touches. I didn't like the top stage (Luxor) too much, the lighting was just hideous and way too bright, but I can see why they did that, it helped the vendors. I think a background would do wonders for both stages, as well as some tasteful, creative lighting, no need to rent out a whole club light set up.
The escalators would be nice, but I found the elevator to be really super helpful. I kept pointing it out to people, they were right next to the bathrooms. Maybe next year a sign at the entrance clearly marking the way to the elevator?
Again, I realize that a new location is going to take some getting used to. The kinks will have to be worked out throughout the year, but hopefully the event organizers will hear enough people and take what they say to heart. Not just complaints, but honest helpful feedback. That is all that is needed to make this once again THE festival in LA. I had a great time, thanks for all the hard work. I look forward to a better festival next year!
